Surgical retrieval of sperm

  • Microsurgical epididymal sperm aspiration (MESA): aspiration of sperm from epididymis in men who have azoospermia (no sperm in ejaculate) due to obstructive causes
  • Testicular sperm extraction (TESE): searching of sperm from a biopsy of testis in men who have azoospermia (no sperm in ejaculate) due to testicular failure. Sperm are successfully obtained in 40-50% of men only.
