Private Patients

If you are not eligible for public assisted reproduction treatment or do not want to wait, you can ask your doctor for a referral letter and book an appointment at the private clinic at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, The University of Hong Kong.

Public Patients

Both Queen Mary Hospital and Kwong Wah Hospital provide assistance to infertile couples in Hong Kong. The service is divided into subfertility assessment clinic and IVF (in vitro fertilization) clinic. All referral letters will be screened and couple will be triaged into suitable clinics.

Subfertility assessment clinic evaluate the cause of infertility and can provide induction of ovulation, induction of ovulation and intrauterine insemination (IUI) and surgery, as indicated.
After being assessed, if in vitro fertilization (IVF) is needed, you will be referred to the IVF clinic for further treatment.

IVF clinic offer IVF treatment to patients directly.

You are eligible for public assisted reproduction treatment at our Centre if you have a Hong Kong identity card, not more than 40 years of age at the time of treatment and do not have any living child.

Get a referral letter from your family doctor, OG doctor or doctors from any discipline. (You can ask your doctor to put down the hospital you are planning to attend.)

After receiving your referral letter, we will arrange your attendance at the Infertility Nurse Triage Clinic within 3-4 weeks. The infertility nurse will take history, arrange further necessary investigations and explain the plan of management to you.
(Please bring all previous investigations including blood tests, semen analysis, X-ray test of the tubes, operation records and the details of any previous fertility treatment.)

Please note that the current waiting time for an out-patient appointment is about 11-12 months and the waiting time for an IVF treatment is about 4-5 months.
